eg 6 days sleeping 2 hours less than they needed with 1 day 4 hours extra. And include benifits as well as problems. The adrenalin of the physical activity is what I believe is used to keep the person awake. This adrenalin could also affect the personality.

What I have found out so far is that the front part of the brain reduces in activity but other parts increase in order to compensate, but I do not know the personality effects these have.

Irritability, poor impulse control, possible loss of coordination (esp if caffeine is used to compensate for lack of sleep).

Reducing sleep is a good way to kill yourself. I believe it can cause depression. Sleep is the only time our immune system rejuvenates itself. In the long run, lack of sleep causes a host of diseases. Before the industrial revolution, people slept an average of 9 hours per night and we did not have the high rate of cancer and heart disease. As far as personality changes.... if we feel bad, we act bad.
