In the US we also do that. It is called daylight Savings time. It is suppose to Energy conservation. Check out this site and read regarding it. It will explain it more about it and how it came about.

It is to maximise the use of daylight. Farmers (particularly up north) have to tend their aninals in the morning and kids would walk to school in the dark otherwise. Contrary to some other posts above, it is not just Britain that move back the clocks but several European countries too, which means that whatever time of the year we are an hour behind Benelux, France, Italy and other states.
It may help the farmers, but not businessmen who try to phone their contacts after 5pm and find they have gone home!

If you look at the link supplied by pdanahey2003, you'll see that roughly half of the world have a Daylight Saving Time, British Summer Time, Central European Time, etc.

Day light savings time - it gives you 1 hour of extra light - most the states do it - I think there are a few who still don't.
It is supposed to save on electric

something about the farmers. they need the extra light in the mornings. we are out of sync with other countries.
