In a controlled, sustained and survivable fashion it is unlikely that 'Big Bird' or the actor wearing the costume would survive any attempt to achieve flight without assistive technology.
While 'any object' hurled at sufficient velocity can achieve flight, the ability to control rate, pitch, etc... is extremely limited, thus controlled flight should not be possible.
I suspect at the end of the day that Big Bird would fly no better than Mr. Snuffelupakus.
Good question - and KEEP STUDYING SCIENCE!!!!

No special atmospheric conditions or long enough runup is needed for Big Bird to fly. He can already fly if he wants to, he just would rather walk.

Lets put it like this. In order to maintain air speed velocity, Big Bird must beat his wings 200 times a second. Now the fact is that Big Bird's weight ratio is just too much. So no, Big Bird will never be able to fly.

Might be best to fire him out of a cannon or maybe drop off a very high bridge first. Anyway, I heard he had his wings clipped to be on Sesame Street because he kept hitting the lighting rig so he might not have any flight feathers left. Shame.

Sorry the aerodynamics are all wrong, you have the body of a 747 with the wings of a Cessna. But having said that we can all fly and a cyclone.

BIG birds body is too heavy to allow him to fly with his wing span is also too short .......
u would have to lengthen his wingspan and have very strong thermals and then i guess he could glide at the very least ..lol

No like a loose BYRD. Confucius as quickly as reported: "in case you own a fowl in a cage, you do no longer own it that's not loose. in case you loose the fowl and it fly's away and does no longer come back, you have lost no longer something, for it became no longer yours to start with. yet; in case you loose the fowl and it comes returned to you then you definitely've something to call your individual."
