I'm looking for a book of symbols. I'm an artist and a writer and I would like to incorporate more symbolism into my work. Is there a book that has a fairly ehhaustive number of symbols dran and explained in it? I've found several books on symbols that are text heavy and don't include a lot of images and I've seen several that have inages, but not a lot of them.

Joseph Campbell wrote a well known book about man and his symbols, which is a book I would highly recommend for you. I know that you don't want "text heavy" books, but if you are going to use symbols in your art, it would be a good idea to know as much as possible about what those symbols mean and imply.... after all that is their real power.

The encyclopedia of Magic and Alchemy. Many alchemy books depict hundreds of symbols from this (almost) lost pseudo-science, and many of those images are disturbing or fascinating.
