Strange you should ask that question now. I have just spent 30 minutes looking at complaints against TalkTalk. Most of the complaints weren't genuine. The main problem is in BT exchanges and with ADSL and getting it up to speed. But the Internet as a whole gets heavy traffic at times and this affects speeds. One server that is supposed to work at 300 Mbs - went down as low as 10 Mbs! That was simply Internet traffic. I have been with TalkTalk for a while and no real problems. It does go slow sometimes - especially weekends and the terms are reasonable useage. At the moment downloading a movie all night could affect the bandwidth on their server and you could get your connection cut. For normal needs it's fine. The price is excellent. Especially if you have relatives in Australia or somewhere. I know someone with family in France and Italy and they get a great deal on free calls on Talk 3 International. Next year new equipment will go in to telephone exchanges and hopefully we will then get the 8 Mbs broadband. It depends how close to the exchange you are. I am 1 mile from the one I use and about 500 yards from another. If you have problems it isn't always TalkTalk's service or any other ISP if you are on ADSL. DSL is provided by cable companies and is faster and pricey! If you want cheap and cheerful go for TalkTalk - but with 100,000 new customers a month - it is an automated system. Don't expect personal service! The call centre in India receives a lot of complaints but personally I have never been put through to them. the service will also improve soon because they have taken over AOL and will have more technical staff - something they are short of at the moment. So there are problems with the technology that are being sorted out and problems with idiots keep phoning them asking when they will be connected all the time! Be patient if you sign up. If you pay BT 3 months in advance for your line rental - that will cover your set up fee for TalkTalk! Set up is £29.99. The contract is for 18 months. This is NOT an advertisement for TalkTalk. You can also get ADSL from BT/Yahoo, and the service is probably better. There doesn't appear to be any cheaper options - but if you want it all set up for you and you are willing to pay extra - go to BT/Yahoo. You pay your money and take your choice. Yahoo staff please note - I have answered the question and even mentioned the Yahoo/BT service - this is informative and not spam! The technical problems with ADSL affect all providers in the UK using ADSL as do BT/Yahoo. If consumers want fast broadband now they have to go to cable and DSL. As far as I know that isn't that reliable - I have heard of problems particularly with NTL service.

My experience of TalkTalk broadband is a mixture of good and bad can be summarised as below

GOOD

Transfer of line rental from BT (We were already on Lineone/Talktalk for calls) on day we were advised it would be.
Broadband promised by end of September, actual date was in third week of September.

Broadband, Line Rental, free landline calls to UK, most of Europe, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand for £21 a month.

Faster than Tiscali. Seems no less reliable but did have trouble connecting last night.

BAD

No advance notice of transfer of broadband. The first we knew about it was when we couldn't log on to Tiscali. It took about half an hour on the phone (At TalkTalks expense!) to get the log in name and password.

Connection CD and Welcome letter arrived a few days later. Good job I didn't need/want the ADSL modem.

It's cheap and it's nasty. TalkTalk have been refunding unsatisfied customers who have been unable to get online. These "free" BB services are not as good as they make out to be.

You're best to stay with the reliable top guys, BT, NTL or Telewest.

And avoid AOL at all times as they load up extra garbage on your computer without your knowledge....like a nasty virus disguised as an ISP which people pay for the "privilege".

NNNNnnnnoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

The most useless company I have ever come accross!!

I signed up just for phone services and ended up getting court summonds' for non-payment of broadband services - at which time I didn't even own a computer!!
