why did she keep ben alive? for that matter why did she keep caroline alive after she stole her life ? wouldnt they eventually get their bearings and tell someone or try to retaliate?

She kept Ben alive so that she would have an excuse to have a young woman in the house to take care of him. she used him to lure in another body for her to steal. As for Caroline and Ben retaliating? The "medicine" that Ben was being given kept him incapable of speech. So, I'm guessing it was some sort of Voodoo potion that kept him from being able to tell anyone what happened to him.

Yeah, there was really no reason why she kept Ben alive! Her husbands spirit wasn't in him anymore! I guess they didn't want to "murder" just destroy their lives....Well, Ben never got his "bearings" because the old lady was drugging him with potions! The storyline was good in that movie; but i felt it could have been so much better!

To make them suffer, and to let the law do its thing for them.
What happened if they would have killed hem? There could have been an investigation, and things could have gotten messy. But what if they let the people live? The best thing for Ben and caroline is that thy would be sent to the loony bin.
If you knew someone, and they told you they were someone else...would you believe them? Most likely not.
They figured that the two would be sent to the mental hospital, or to jail for trying to kill them.
That's my theory anyways...

The old folks were basically old & people wouldn't beleive their stories. Besides, the old dude was kinda paralised anyway & he couldn't tell anybody abything anyway. The old lady telling the story would just not fit either since it deals with magic.

the spirit is moving from alive body to alive body to keep the spirit alive. this means there will be a sequal!
