It's a story about a pilgrimage to spiritual enlightenment that starts in the US and ends in South America. It has some Christianity and New Age belief. There are a bunch of synchrocity--some good versus evil.
The guy who wrote it sold it out of his car and a lot of people really latched on to it and it became a huge seller about a decade back.

No. It was a fiction book set in Peru that was popular some years ago.
