any difference for MP3 thumbdrives

There are so many different names around the world but I believe you mean the USB flash drives and no, they do not need to be formatted. They are smart drives and like any other peripheral media holder can be used for all types of files, just easier and quicker than DVD for instance. I have seen these drives as large as 2 gig but here u can even get one with 8 gjg. Expensive tho, that large. The 1 gig is very affordable.

Most thumbdrives are pre-formatted. Some vendors like sony also provide you with a formatter tool though one rarely needs it.

no they don't need to be, not unless you want to get rid of all the information or you want to change the file system to ntfs or something else

as everyone said, they generally don't need it. but you can by accessing it in my computer, right clicking, then clicking format
