when you catch a fish, and prise the barbed hook out of its top lip, then throw it back in again......... just what is the point? and why cause potential pain to the fish ( I say potential coz no-body really knows if they feel pain do they?? so that means potentially they could) Justify this activity if you can, and the best (funniest) reason for standing/sitting at the crack of dawn, freezing cold watching a float bobbing about, gets the 10 points.......I await amusement..............

I was like you once and couldn't understand just what people saw in fishing then I was asked to go on a sea fishing trip just to make the numbers up. I reluctantly went and almost as soon as the boat started to sail out of the harbour I had this sense of peacefullness that I had not known before. I spent 8 hours on that boat, never caught a damn thing but came back to shore a very relaxed person. Since then I have been onmany such trips sometimes catching quite a few fish and sometimes not many or none at all but I have always returned calm and at peace with myself and the world so what I would say to you and all the oters that feel it's wrong is,"don't knock it till you've tried it"

Angling is not just about catching fish. It's about totally detaching yourself from stress, witnessing nature at first hand and, sometimes about catching dinner. Anglers enjoy the process as much as the results and so, often return excess or juvenile fish. Coarse anglers tend to return all of their fish, their skill being the capture of as many or as great a weight of fish as possible. The popularity of angling would suggest that it satisfies some primeval hunting instinct and a sense of the ability to survive.

First of all any real caring true fisherman would never use a barbed hook, the only people who use barbed hooks are so called fishermen who couldn't even catch a cold and also I have never heard a fish say ouch yet.

The point, I like to eat fish and it is peaceful. If I don't catch enough I can throw them back, unlike hunting where I would freeze and I can't take back the bullet. I'm not one who enjoys dragging a deer out of the woods after spending hours sitting still four hours. I'm a fair weather fisherman.

depending on just what you are fishing for , the size of the hook can make a big difference in the amount of pain the fish would be in , assuming you can catch one , i am a woman and i love to fish , it is relaxing and i eat what i catch , no more no less , i dont care for the sporting part of it , nor do i believe in mounting them either , i just like to fish !

I believe fish feel pain&fear. I live on an island. People come from all over to fish. When I see the quanity of dead fish I worry about the population.. The worst is the sharks.I think that is an all out slaughter. I won't say why people fish. I sure see it everyday all day

you have no idea what you are talking about, fishing is way more than standing/sitting at the crack of dawn on a bank side.
Fishing is a hobby that means I own £3,000 worth of gear to make me enjoy it.
I go for 2-3 days and nights at a time, you live it for that time, you don't go just to hook and harm the fish.
Anglers care about the fish.

As for harming them, fish are not intelligent and are not self aware and do not feel pain.
Do not preach something you obviously no nothing about.
