You should check with your company, every pension has different rights.

Most pensions transfer to the spouse upon your death, but I don't think there is any legal liability for the company to transfer it. Sometimes it is only a fraction of the pension which transfers. Also, common law, I'm not sure how this works.

You do really need to check out your policy documents.

While you're thinking about this, do you have an 'expression of wish' with your company, have you changed this?

On this matter, please check carefully since in British law there is no such thing as a 'common law' wife. My advice would be to seek advice from a solicitor specialising in this field in order to give you and your partner peace of mind. .

And a gentle note to Uncut.... A phrase that includes the words 'pot' and 'kettle' comes to mind regarding your remark [ 'wanna'?, 'u'?,
'checkspell' ? ( presumably you meant 'spellcheck'?)] It would be kinder and more courteous if you were to refrain from making such gratuitously critical comments, since, for all you know, the questioner might be some one whose mother tongue is not English. I understood what he meant, and I assume you did, too, hence the communication aspect was fully covered.

Best to do it now, name her as your beneficiary. Or get married. that will sove a lot of legal problems as your ex still has a claim on your stuff, even tho she's re married. Can't transfer anything after you die
