Schizophrenia is a mental condition that can be helped by medications. It more often affects males and can start at any age but usually begins sometime in the teens or early twenties. It can cause the person to hear voices, or feel paranoid, among many other symptoms. Medication can relieve these symptoms if they are not too severe. Many people with schizophrenia can now lead relatively normal lives with proper care. I hope this helped.

Schizophrenia is a disorder of the brain which typically onsets in young adult-hood but can strike at just about any age. People with schizophrenia may suffer from auditory hallucinations, such as hearing voices, visual hallucinations, or paranoia and delusions. Symptoms may vary greatly from individual and may or may not be transient in nature. Some individuals will babel incoherantly to voices they hear, some may laugh or cry at inappropriate times, or some may appear perfectly normal except for a stongly held delusion.
The brains of schizophrenics have marked difference from the brains of non-affected individuals, narrowing and developing pockets as the disorder takes hold. The disorder is thought to be caused by a genetic disposition which relies heavily on an environmental factor to become activitated, as in cases of identical twins, one may be affected and the other may not.
Schizophrenia can sometimes be treated, though not cured, with anti-psychotic medications, however many patients cannot take these due to side effects such as permenant nerve damage.
