emt's are suppose to be ambulance trained are'nt they?

The rules are different from state to state. However usually a first responder is not certified to be part of an ambulance crew. You must be an EMT or Paramedic.

to be certified (and be able to bill for services) most ambulance agencies require registry as a state or national EMT. I imagine some volunteer outfits might use first responders.

emts are trained, but if you are a first responder, you can usually ride as an observer, until you decide if you want to take an emt class, or you could join your local fire dept. many of them have first responders also.
