An airborne force has the element of complete & total suprise, lightning strike capability & usually better trained troops. The only draw back is the weaponry deployed. Most airborne units are lightly armed to strike fast & hard, with the maximum amount of damage, but are not really equipped to fight a long term action, in the sense that there are no heavy weapons like armor or artillerey available to them to employ.. All their firepower basically has to be carried on their backs. But---- airborne is the only method to employ when shock & suprise is desired outcome.

any air assault should have a greater element of surprise, the predictablility is dependent on political factors, and on the ground situation. If it appears obvious to the attacker that air assault is the best option, then that also prob appears best to the defender.

Amphibous attack is more predictable because of the ships' slow travel unlike an airborne assault where there is element of surprise because air travel is faster and usually undetected.

Surprise is easier to acheive by air but the amphib assault can put more men and heavier equipment on the ground .

Airborne units are more mobile than amphibius one. They is faster and they could be dropped just about anywhere. But they also easier to shoot down than ships. Ships also can carry heavier loads longer and support an operation better. Johan

i'm assuming you are talking about a coastal area and not inland-however,an aerial assault would contain the greatest element of surprise.
