Well, the Fujifilm F30 (and the yet to be released update, F31d) has an amazing battery life of up to 580 shots...which is the best you can get. It uses a supplied Lithium battery. It has 6MP and 3X optical.
It is THE best compact camera available for low light situations, with a maximum ISO of 3200...however quality really starts dropping after ISO 800 (which is still very impressive for a compact).
It performs only average to good with outdoor shots...purple fringing (CA) is a big issue.
The next best camera on battery life would have to be the Canon A630 (8Mp) or A640 (10Mp)...500 shots, using 4 AA size, NiMH 2500...and is a very good camera.
However, I would not buy a camera solely on it's battery life...if you are so concerned then buy a spare set.
