Three things that make a person closer to God.
1. Stay on the book. That is keep reading the words of God.
2. Stay with people who will keep and strengthen your beliefs.
3. Attend the studies, teachings and church activities.

God is as close as His name, so pray. Prayer is our direct connection to Him.
God talks to us in a small voice, some people hear it, others do not yet. Many people think that prayer is ineffective when one doesn't hear or get anything ( answers) God is sometimes silent, He's a good listener, always, and then sometimes God is speaking to us, but our own voices in our hearts are too loud. Sometimes- uh most times it is hard to quiet our minds and hearts of the day, but if we are "still and rest" in the "quiet place" and this comes by prayer and more prayer. God is our friend, and just as He walked and talked with Adam and Eve in the garden, He does that with us also, except we use prayer to communicate.
Read scripture, get to know His word, and through that you will begin to recognize that God is personal and unique for every individual. Pray before you read His scripture for more understanding, and the closeness that you seek. If you do pray this, you may discover that there are unique possibilities and circumstances in your life that aid you in gaining a closer relationship.

Remember, your prayer is still heard even if you do not "get" or "hear" or have revelations, God is always listening.

God speaks to you through your conscience, so really, the only 2 beings who can help you be closer to God are you and God. Though stories & words from other people can help inspire that in you too, the choice ultimately comes from you.

You have your own path to God that He has set before you. All you need to do is look around to see Him in all joyous things. The smile of a child, the song of a bird, the reading of Psalms, wherever you find peace and love, there is God.
God is not far away in some lofty place with clouds and harps. He is beside you at all times. People just forget to see Him.
ANYONE who says in an email or on TV, for instance, that he can lead you to God is a false prophet, by definition.

God can. Get to know Him through His word. You have to read everyday. Start off with the easy stuff, then you delve into the more difficult if you so desire. The bible helps us recognize who God is and who He isn't. His signature is all over it.
I have a good friend. I know him pretty well and talk to him all the time. If someone came up to me and told me that he said something, I would pretty much know wether or not he said it and I would know what he meant by it, because I am with him so much. That's what the bible does. It keeps us familiar with God. So we know what He has said, and it keeps us faithful when we get confronted with lies.

You can get to know God by confessing with your mouth Jesus is Lord and believing in your heart God raised Him from the dead. Once you know Jesus as your Savior the Holy Spirit within you will help you to know God better as you attend church to worship God , to pray, to learn God's word and to relate to one another in a Christlike way. Knowing God is a process and having burning desire in your heart know God will help you become more intimate with Him. The ultimate aim is to make Jesus your friend.

While many will offer their opinions, others will offer books to read, and still others may offer teachings.
All I have to offer is for you to read and study the book of Proverbs.
You want to know God, get closer to Him, learn His thoughts -
then read Proverbs.

honestly as simple and cliched as it sounds "live and let live".. be a good person from the minute u wake up till the minute u sleep.. dont ask for bad things done unto others.. you will get closer to god.. theres a god in all of us ..
