I have a student with an early high school reading level/attention span, who needs to become familiar with the workings of businesses, and (especially) business vocabulary. What book will give her a general overview of businesses and aspects of working in a company? I want to give her a good introduction, without overwhelming her with too many details. A book with a glossary of terms is preferable, and one with an interesting layout is much preferable to one that is simply pages and pages of text.

Something like a textbook for a high school introduction class would be fine, if it's well organized and easy to read.

Try Dummies guide to business...seriously, it's a good book. I think it's called Starting a business for idiots. There's quite a few, try Amazon.

I would give her Liar's Poker. Very enlightening and at her level.
Indeed I would consider it mandatory reading at the start of any business course.
Sadly all the text books I have on the subject don't have pictures, and are boring as hell. Sorry.

I liked Adam Smith's "Wealth of Nations", but it might be a bit advanced for her...perhaps a visit to a nearby University bookstore would be in order...look for the texts listed for Business Management 101. The bookstore staff should be happy to help you, given the price of college texts today...LOL.
