There is nothing wrong with it. How would you get sexually satisfied if you didn't masturbate and you don't want to cheat on him? Tell him something to the effect of "It may be your job to satisfy me, but while your gone, I feel like I have two choices, either masturbate or cheat, and I DON'T want to cheat on you"

The only side effect occurs through frequent execution. ^_^ when a guy always masturbates, or gets somebody to do it for him, he gradually loses fertility, making him impotent through time. Because alongside the sperm cells that go out of his body are the so-called male hormones (testosterone, to name one as an example).
But to answer your second question, just keep in touch with him. Find better ways to make him feel that you're never going to desert him. Keep your communication media open, and get updated on him as much as possible.

That's the strangest thing I've ever heard. My fella and every man I've ever known for that matter absolutely loves it when I masturbate, with him, away from him, on the phone to him... he doesn't care as long as he gets to watch, join in or know about it. It drives him crazy when I tell him that I do it when he's not there.
I would be worried about your man there.. that's a pretty unusual hangup I would say.

he has three options:
a) drop the attitude and encourage you to masturbate while he is away. In fact maybe he should even bring you some nice sex toys from far off lands so you will enjoy thinking about the next gift while you are pleasuring yourself.
b) stay home and pleasure you himself.
c) decide it is better for you to have a second guy to keep you happy when he is away. Maybe a guy who travels when your bf is home and is home when your bf is away.

The word masturbation and the wrong should never be used in the same sentence. There is nothing wrong with masterbating, it's great. I go crazy when my girl starts to touch herself, i just get so excited, i encourage her to masterbate as much as she can.
