Would it be a deal breaker?

Why? because you are shallow, for health reasons, or something else?

I am in shape and I don't give a damn about someone being heavy.

When my husband and I got married, he weighed 100 kilos (222lbs). During my various pregnancies (yes, MY pregnancies), he managed to gain weight up to 118 kilos (close to 260 lbs). I have never found him unattractive and, in fact, always find him rather attractive. I do not want him to get too overweight, however, because of the history of diabetes and high blood pressure in his family. I have the same history in my family, so I, too, make an effort to stay in shape, though there's a bit of extra flab in the stomach area that I just can't seem to get rid of.
Anyhow, that's that.

My ex wife gained over 80 pounds during our first year of marriage. It wasn't a 'deal breaker' but it did cause her emotional health to deteriorate. She became very cranky and almost violent at times. My mental image of her got worse and worse, until I saw her as a monster in my mind's eye -- kind of like one of the characters with the big mouth full of teeth in the book "Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak. Eventually, when she became physically abusive, I left her.

I wouldn't break up with them, but as their mate I would ask them about it and try to help them lose it.

It's not about being shallow, being over weight is unhealthy plain and simple. It affects a lot more things in life than just looks.

Since I care about them, I would be concerned if they suddenly started adding on pounds.

No it would be a deal breaker. If I love that person before I would still love him. After all I didn't fall in love with him for his body.

I wouldn't break up with my boyfriend if he put on weight. But I would mention it and support him to put it off for both health and aesthetic reasons.

I am fat and I am not attracted to fat women, Thin woman are not attracted to fat men. It is not shallow it is a preference. You say you don't care about a heavy person but you really do. I think I would pull away from my mate if I was thin and she became fat.
