I generally like to do a few things (but it'll depend upon your budget)
Time and attention are always important so make yourself available and proceed to shower her with attention and affection.
Second would be setting: movies, dinner date or even a night inside can both be romantic and fun.
Third would be the actual gift. I recommend a practical gift and something that impresses. Practical means something that she can use day to day or is a hobby of hers. Something that could impress would be a necklace or something similar.

Flowers are obligatory. A nice looking pendant or a music box/jewelry case for her stuff. Depends on the chick. Grunge girls dont care too much about music boxes. need more details.
