Formal wear means to dress up, in accordence with rules of convention or etiquette; suitable for constituting an official or importnat situation or an occasion. e.g Wedding, Year 10 formal etc.

The young men wear suits, and the young woman wear a gowns in varying colours and styles.

To insure you do "the right thing" check with the school on what they expect students to wear.

I have included some links on formals.

Enjoy the night

well for year 10 it depends on how * formal* the event is meant to be.
when my kids were at that year level the year 10 function was referred to as a * semi-formal* in that it was not to be as dressy as the year 12 function.
so do ask what others are planning to wear - a suit may be a bit over the top ; but dressy casual slacks ( chinos) ; dress shirt ; dress shoes - NOT joggers etc.
My son made his own outift - sunshine yellow linen slacks & a navy satin pirate style shirt; with black dress shoes - his mates were impressed.
choose something that reflects who you are & ENJOY your night

LoL easy. Don't wear a tux it would look way to formal and cost allot. I recommend some maybe dark jeans/long dark pants? And a nice top? (pain white/pale color/maybe something with a small picture on it?)Then a jacket if you want? a Black/Dark Jacket something that is comfortable and looks great! Well hope that helped you.
