they are as uniqe as we are so you would have to relate to it somehow and find out why its so shy, play some music near it but dont blast it as this will make the bird nervouser.

You will notice that parrots will pick up words that are spoke in with a stressful, maybe angry tone, i.e. swearing is a givin' include a fun positive, surprise them with a word. difficult for me to get this out right now, so I will use an example.

When I play with Baby she like it when I drop a small sheet over her. When I pick up the sheet so she can see me I say 'peek-a-boo' The action enforced activity, the activity bound with the audio thus helping them to engage in return play. Sorry, My words just are not coming out well this A.M. but try this technique it does make a difference. Also there are receptive times and non-receptive times through-out the day. You need to watch for the times they are receptive, little actions will tell you when this is, if your parrot is already mumbling kinda wait a while as he is trying to figure something out at that time and you may be interfering. Watch for signs that your friend is seeking you and approach him with a fun easy word like hello. Every time you leave your home be sure to say goodbye. etc. as ACTIONS SPEAK MUCH louder than words.

The chili's are a favorite of many birds by giving them to him for not talking, well guess what. you rewarded him for not doing the right thing. Kinda like sending a child to their room. You may hear anger from your child, that is just manipulation from, the child but in reality you just sent the child to their kingdom of fun toy, and usually their favorite comfort zone. It only get deeper from here. good luck!

Every day, set the clock a few minutes forward. Parrots are very time sensitive and they will respond accordingly. Within a week they will be speaking 14% faster.

A parrot is a very intelligent bird. Unlike other birds it pays great attention to what it listens(in real life also human beings who listen carefully grasp fast and are more analytical)and thus what is repeated to it again and again is remembered by it.So please speak clearly, giving correct diction and you will find your parrot will master it fast. Just do not forget to encourage and motivate it by offering something it likes most among other things green chilly.

My parrot Billy, is an african grey, and he says everything, alot of stuff, that he has heard me say, for instance, he will holler Ed...Ed , that is my boyfriends name, he hears me holler for Ed to come here, he will say commme onnnnnn, over a few times in a row, he says Nicky, comme eerrr babby, it's soo funny, but he has a very big vocabulary, think god, no cussing, my brother tried that a few times, he hasn't said any yet, he calls my dogs, and ask if they want to go outside, I think, just talk to your bird, everytime you are in the room, when you enter, when you leave, and at night, I always tell Billy goodnite, before I cover him up. Hope some of this may help you. Goodluck to you.

i've never owned a parrot so i don't actually know. I would try to teach the parrot the word or phrase in the exact tone and speed in which you want him to speak it. Repetitively

Take him/her in a room that is quiet with just the 2 of you and talk to it...just say like 2 words at a time for at least 1/2 hour a day...and sooner or later, he or she will start talking.

Talk with him as much as possible. Do not change words... repeat the same word again and again. first select 2-3 words to teach… once he learns them then go for another 2-3 words... keep teaching him... one day he will speak a small sentence.

sit beside him keep repeating ur name if u want him to speak that and see he will start telling the same.
my parrot always says my name only because as my name is very short so if your name is long make it short somehow.

Hi you can only hope that you have a talker & this means that you have to spend lots of time with the bird going over the same words over & over...however this is no sure thing that he is going to talk...some are & some just never do...Regards Jake http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PetsSecondChance
