I am an international student (F-1 visa.) Recently, I got a job offer for internship and they asked me to provide my SSN. Does anyone can suggest how to apply for SSN? What kinds of document I need? Thank you.

You can only apply for the special SSN card through your college. First, you have to prove that there's an employer interested in you.
Second, the employer must be aware of your limitations as a F-1 student (limit of hours per week).
The college will give you an official document or letter that you'll take to the social security office. They'll verify its authenticity, then they'll ask for your passport and I-20 and make copies of it. It'll take about 2 or 3 weeks for them to verify your legal status. For the 3rd or 4th week you'll receive a letter telling you that you've been approved and will get your SSN card soon. While you wait til your SSN card gets mailed to you, you can just go to the SS office and ask for the number only.

This is just a regular SSN card but it has your restrictions written on it (like 'valid to work under permission only' or 'not valid for work' and stuff like that)

I think that you have to have a work visa or green card to work as a non-citizen. I do not think that you can apply for a social security number if you are not a citizen.
