I you have a good diet and consume roughly 2000 calories a day, walking four miles at brisk pace will burn approxiately 400 calories. You need to burn about a 1000 calories WITHOUT increasing your food consumption to lose one pound. Given that you probably will eat a little more than 2000 calories, you could lose a pound in about three days. If you limit yourself to 2000 calories a day and walk 4 miles at a brisk pace, you could conceivably lose 100 pounds in as little as 3 months. However, if you have a hundred pounds to lose, the likelihood is that your daily caloric intake is well over 2000 calories. Also the additional exercise will increase your hunger, so you may find you consume more calories and essentially offset some of the benefits of the exercise. Moreover, losing a huge amount of weight too rapidly can be dangerous. I would recommend first reducing your caloric intake to 2000 calories, with some leisurely walks, and when you feel comftorable at this level, then start walking briskly every day, making sure you do not increase you caloric intake. Eating lots of green vegetable, drinking three litres of water a day and avoiding carbohydrates will also help you make sure you keep your caloric intake low. But don't set yourself unrealistic targets, because that will lead to frustration and just putting the weight back on again.

You wouldn't want to lose that much weight so fast because then you'll have a lot of excess skin to worry about. Exerting too much effort may cause you to lose interest in what your doing. Just eat healthy (fish, fruits, veggies) and do regular and varied exercises. I don't know how long you'll last doing the same thing everyday without getting bored. There are a lot of health and fitness websites out there. Be sure to check them for new exercises and ways to hit your proper weight. But the most important thing is you enjoy what you're doing. Aim to be healthy and do it at your own pace. That is much more satisfying.

But keep in mind that muscles are heavier than fat so if you do some body building then you might gain some (healthy) weight. I, for example, am a lot heavier than my chubby friends because I lift weights.

Hi. I have a similar problem and I am going to have weight loss surgery. I am obese but I have been to see a doctor in Queensland, Australia and I have seen some of his patient pictures too. It's expensive to do but it really looks good. His name is Dr Bowden and he's at a hospital at Auchenflower in Brisbane. You should have a look at his webpage at www.blairbowden.com.au. I'm a bit scared really too but I just can't lose the weight and I feel reallyl gross.

All depends.....I mean, if you are already like, 130 pounds, then never. But seriously, If you are morbidly obese, then start at a little slower pace. Too much exercise too fast can be a deterrent to people starting out as well as not healthy for you.
