My ex and i have the best relationship...actually we get on better now than we ever did before, and to be true sometimes i look at him, and i still find him very attractive, i have always attracted very good looking men,...but he still has all these feelings for me, and if i'm honest i thought i felt a little something the other day, but quickly realized i was just getting caught up in the moment, and because i speak to him with respect, and we do get along pretty well, he gets the wrong idea...he has actually convinced himself that we can reconcile our relationship, and become more than what we are, i wont even bother telling my partner who i'm with now, because i know for a fact he would hit the roof, and probably confront my ex...so how do i tell my ex that it's only a civilised friendship that we have, and nothing more than that?...... he just keeps pushing.........

Trust me i do try to tell him, but he always manages to smooth over what i suppose he dosent want to hear, then i just clam up, i think i'm rolling over for this guy too many times, but it's not that easy....he's such a charmer, and very good with words, and knows how to manipulate people, i cant seem to get a hold on something this simple, why does it seem so hard, is it because i'm a soft touch?......

ex's as friends...would be nice if it could be that way, but the fact remains that it can never happen because at least one of you has stronger feelings for the other. best thing to do is just tell him outright because if you don't he will keep thinking that there will be something more out the relationship when you have obviously moved on.

Don't get pushed around NO is NO. I've had this happen before and no matter how honest and open you are just talking to him he still thinks he has a chance. Sometimes you just have to completely cut him off before he gets the hint. You can tell him you don't want to cut him off completely but your relationship will not be anything more than platonic.

You just answered your own question. Tell your ex that it's only a civilised friendship that we have, and nothing more than that. I'd still probably keep the "nothing more" part out. Tell him that you value his friendship, and that he is more like family(a brother) to you rather than just a friend, and that you can't see the two of you together.

Well really there isn't any way to let anyone down easily just tell him the truth which will set you free and start by saying that you want to remain friends. Explain how you feel and you need to let him know before things get further.

It sounds to me like you're sending him mixed messages. Cut him loose and let him move on.
