Try Zone Alarm from here http://www.webuser.co.uk/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/219333/an/0/page/0#219333

Click on the name and it will take you to the download site.

You may also need other good and free security programs, which are also on that list.

If so, go for AVG anti virus, AVG anti-spyware, and Spyware Blaster.

You must make sure, however, that you keep the above three programs fully updated, either manually or automatically.

First, ask yourself if you really need a firewall. As a general user, the windows firewall is good enough because i think that there's a 90% chance that nobody is going to perform a direct attack on your system and the windows firewall is good enough to block all the port scanning activity that's going on out there.

Also, if you have a good antivirus (even free AVG is very good if you don't want to pay for one) all the spam will be kept out of your PC without the need of a special firewall to do so.

But if you're thinking seriously about enhancing your computer security I think you should consider Zone Alarm. In my opinion, ZA is the most user/consumer friendly firewall I've seen. It's very easy to configure and it has a great help text that will explain you just about everything you need to know.

But again, think about the necessity of a firewall before you invest your money in one.

i think you should get the free zone alarm - the prob with the windows firewall is that i dont think it will stop outgoing connections, whereas zone alarm asks your permission before a program trys to connect to the internet. If you had spyware on your pc it can connect to the internet and send out data it has gathered about u eg a simle example - what websites u like so then you'll be inundated with adverts.Zonealarm will prevent this.
Another firewall that i dont have personal experience of is Kerio's firewall which comes highly rated and is also free

If you're behind a router, that's the most important thing. Just turn on the Xp firewall for peace of mind :) If you're really curious about outbound traffic and don't mind being interrupted every time a program wants to check for updates, Zonealarm is s good software firewall.

If you were asking about REAL firewall devices, Sonicwall is very highly regarded...

The ZoneAlarm firewall is the best; go for it. It has a free version, which is what you need if you want only a firewall.
