thanks - wendloo says "no prayer is communicating to God"

this is not just verging on superstition - this *is* superstition to believe that talking to yourself in your head, means that you are communicating with some supernatural entity... an example of superstition is where you believe that carrying out one action will affect the outcome of a situation... from what i can see thats pretty much what "praying" actually is - a superstition... thats mad.

Praying can be a ritual but definitely is not superstition. In fact praying is not talking to yourself--rather is talking to God.Hinduism preaches that "God" or the essence of God is deep WITHIN oneself.Another school of thought describes prayers as the means of communication with God and the process of atonement.Today practically every act associated with any faith is termed as superstition.

depends on what kind on prayer you are referring to since most religions have prayers, and secondly, it depends on how you define "socially acceoted" and "superstitious" also.

but trying to answer your question, I would say the christian prayer is indeed a socially accepted form of worship in the US, but since it is socially accepted as valid, it would not be labeled false by the society as the word "superstitious" implies.
