My belly piercing has not had an infection in a long time but the piercing itself is very thin. I was wondering if there was different sizes for belly rings. I know there are different gauge sizes for the rings but are there belly rings with a shorter "stem" part and if so where can I get them.

Personally I think that you might want to have that heal up and close and get it redone when you're all healed up. It might save you a lot of pain and annoyance down the road.

If the piercing is 'thin' this means the jewelry migrated(which some change in position is normal, but not a large drastic amount of change) or is in the process of rejection. If you've had a lot of infections, I would have made this more likely to happen. Also, a poor piercer can assist in something like this happening. If you want to read about migration and rejection go to www.bmezine.com and use the encyclopedia to look up the terms and see pictures.

You can find shorter wearable length banana bells/curved barbells at online stores. Typical navel jewelry has a 3/8" to 1/2" wearable area.

I wish I could see a picture to know if you should let it just heal up or not. Healing it up would probably be your best option because changing the jewelry can irriate the piercing sometimes and if there is minimal skin, the piercing is more likely to migrate completely out or be pulled out. I would talk to a DIFFERENT piercer than the one who did it so they can look at it and give you the best advice. Sorry I can't be further help, but this is something I would need to look at.

Yes there are plenty of places you can find different jewelry that is shorter. You might want to check at your local piercing/tattoo parlors, and maybe online. For a belly button i wouldn't suggest anything smaller than a 16 gauge. However if you dont find the right jewelry you can have your local piercer measure and make a custom jewelry order for you. The pieces are custom made but they can be expensive. I paid $100 for a set of custom nipple barbells but the length, weight, gauge and the way the balls screw on are perfect. I have never seen any barbells that were made so perfect!
