Making Jell-O shots

Making Jell-O shots is like making regular jello, except with alcohol added instead of cold water and pouring it in shot glasses/tiny cups instead of bowls.

Steps
In a bowl, mix-boiling water with the powdered gelatin until fully dissolved.
Add cold water and alcohol to the boiling water/Jell-O mixture.
Pour resulting mixture into shot glasses or paper cups.
Put glasses/cups on a tray and let Jell-O set for two hours in the refrigerator.

Tips
Depending on the proof of alcohol you use, adjust the proportions of alcohol to cold water to ensure that the shot still sets. Use the following ratios:
13 ounces of 30-50 proof alcohol to 3 ounces cold water
10 ounces 80-100 proof alcohol to 6 ounces cold water
6 ounces 150-200 proof alcohol to 10 ounces cold water
Although shot glasses look prettier and allow you to see the vibrant colors of the jello, paper cups allow for easier jello shot consumption as they can be turned inside out.
If you are having a jello shot party, you may want to use more water and less alchol when making the shots.
Follow the instructions on the package.
Be creative in mixing jello flavors with alcohol. If you have a favorite alcoholic drink, try converting it into jello short form using unflavored jello, juice/soda and alcohol.
Orange and cherry are jello flavors that work well with Brandy.
You can match fruit flavored liquor with fruit flavored jello. For example, you can combine
Here are some other popular liquor/jello flavors combinations:
Lime jello with tequila and triple sec
Orange jello with orange cognac/brandy (such as Grand Marnier) or peach schnapps
Unflavored gelatin with coca-cola with rum
Cranberry jello with vodka
Cherry jello with cherry brandy
Raspberry jello with raspberry Schnapps
Tropical fruit jello (or unflavored gelatin mixed with fruit punch) with dark rum or mango liqueur
Unflavored jello with lemonade and whiskey
Strawberry jello with light rum and strawberry liqueur (such as Pucker)
Apricot Jello with amaretto

Warnings
Even though jello shots taste like candy they still contain alcohol, so please consume in moderation.
Be extra careful if you use everclear in jello shots as they will be extremely potent.

Things You'll Need
Small paper cups or shot glasses
1 6-ounce package of Gelatin (flavored or unflavored -- you decide)
16 ounces boiling water
6 ounces cold water
Alcohol (amount varies -- see tip)
A stove
A pot to boil water for Jello

Follow the method on the box of jello your using for the Quick Cooling method. For one small box of Jello, you would use 1/3cup of the liquor of your choice. Put in ice cube trays sprayed with a non-stick cooking spray so they come out easy. Use a non flavored one though. If you want to get really creative pour the jello and liquor onto a cookie sheet and once it sets, use little cookie cutters to make cute shapes. My mom was a bartender and every Saturday night for ladies night they made Jello-Shooters. This is the way they made it at the bar she worked at. Be sure you can let them set at least 4-6hrs.

Use half the required water, put the vodka and tequila in the freezer overnight, mix them with to make up a little less than the required remaining water, blend well, let set in fridge overnight, they'll set firm and cut easy if you dip bottom of pant into hot water for 10 seconds before cutting.

Not sure how or how much water etc.... that you do put in the jello shooters. I have seen people use small shot glasses (plastic ones) for their shooters when they did make some.

use less water in the jello, about 1 cup of water per jello pack, and put in freezer to set.

Jello use two cups of water per standard package. Reduce the amount of water and and make up the difference with the liquor.

"mikewhite..." is right on - I would add to not go too crazy w/ the vodka - as alcohol does not freeze. This may be why you've had trouble in the past.

when we make this we take 1 cup of water and then one cup of alcohol and we just put them in the fridge. You can probably put them in a 13x9 inch pan and then have them set in that, or you can put them in dixie cups.
