I have tried everything to get rid of this annoyance, first i used the equaline lice kit, and cleaned and disinfected all clothes and bed linen and sprayed the whole house. My poor daughter got it again, so I retreated her and tried the mayo and showercap trick( to suffocate them) She got it again. I took her to the doctor and the doctor prescribed Kwell shampoo which the pharmacy told me they do not carry anymore to try nix cream rinse. Tried that and redisinfected the whole house again. It has been like a month and a half and I am about to lose my mind so I was curious if a perm would kill the lice and their eggs and if a 6 year old is too young to have a perm. I am at my wits end, I am not sure what I am doing wrong but I feel sorry for my baby and I want it gone! Please help!

I have 3 children and have sooooo been in your shoes. Get some lavender hair conditioner and tea tree oil (both can be found at walmart for under $10). Also pick up some Bengal foggers for your house. It kills the lice all over the house versus spraying everywhere. Mix about 2 oz. tea tree oil in 3/4 bottle lavender conditioner. Put this in dry hair and wrap tightly with Saran wrap. Leave on for about 2 hrs. Wash out, then use the remaining conditioner with the oil after regular shampooing to keep them away. This works great and is natural-no liver damage from poisons of Nix and Rid. Good luck!

Try Rid. You can get it at walmart or whatever. Theres a three piece kit you can buy that comes with shampoo, nit comb and comb out gel, and bedding spray. This worked very well for my dorm mate when she had lice. Also, make sure to wash everything cloth (curtains, sheets, clothing etc.) in very hot water. Put pillows in the dryer on the highest setting possible, and spray mattresses, couches, cloth covered chairs, pretty much anything your child has sat on or slept in that cannot fit in the washer with the bedding spray. If you have lots of furniture, you may have to buy a second can. This is what we did for my dorm mate when she got lice a few months back and it hasnt come back so far. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Mayo wouldn't work. A perm is definately not the solutiion.
Nix typically does work.

I am a barber and get this question seemingly every fall.

Since she is reinfested after the house has been disinfected, perhaps you should check with the school/day care/friends house to see if they are battling an outbreak. It sounds like she may have been re-exposed to them. The key is breaking the cycle. Since you haven't mentioned having the problem yourself, that leads me to believe she may have exposure elsewhere in her routine.

Ultimately, I very STRONGLY suggest a return trip to your doctor's office AS SOON as they open in the morning and seek proper medical treatment. Be sure to tell them that the first trip proved unsuccessful and your 6week ordeal needs to end pronto. Show the doctor (if they are like barber shops he'll need to shut down his office and disinfect everywhere within 6 feet of where your daughter's been before resuming practice.)

The best and cheapest way of getting rid of head lice and the nits are Vaseline and goop hand cleaner. The Vaseline will kill the lice because they can't breath and also breaks up the "glue" that holds the nits in the hair. Then the goop hand cleaner will break up the Vaseline. Then after that all you have to do is shampoo the hair to get the goop hand cleaner out. You can use a hair dryer to "blow" out the nits at this point as they are loose and will just blow out.

I did this with my daughter after visiting her dad, she came home with a head full of head lice. This I promise works. Her hair was mid way down her back and didn't want to have to cut her hair and by doing this, it kept me from cutting her hair.

If you want more info about this, let me know and I will help you out. By the way, you can do this now and when you are finished they are gone!!! No waiting on anything!!!!

I forgot to tell you I got this info on getting rid of them from my hair dresser himself.

A perm wouldn't solve your problem. Actually, it's strange that all the preperations you bought didn't help. They usually do. But you can try vinegar. Leave it on for about 30 min. Then rinse it off. I think you must start consentrating on finding the source of lice. Someone at school, perhaps? If so, you must bring it under the teacher's attention. Otherwise your child will never be rid of it.

The lice will keep coming back if the school you are sending your daughter to does not take care of the problem on their end. It sounds to me like you did and are doing everything you can to keep the lice problem at bay. One thing the health department told me to do was to put all of her stuffed animals in sealed plastic bags and put them out of the house for a month. My daughter ended up with lice twice from school. The school sent her home and would not allow her back in without a thorough exam in the school office after I treated her. I would put some pressure on the school to take care of the problem on their end. In our school system, when a child gets lice, the health department is notified and keeps track of the kids infected. Do they do that where you live? Sounds to me like some childs parent is not dealing with the problem, the school is not being vigilant in rechecking the kids sent home with lice and the cycle keeps repeating itself. Good Luck

well if you get cat shampoo that treats ticks, fleas and lice it will take care of ur problem. Using hairspray on ur daughters hair before goin to school helps keep head lice away. You might need to call her school let them know that thier is another child that has them and givin them to your child.Just make sure you get all of the nits out of her head and just kinda wash her hair about once a week with the cat shampoo. let it set for about 5 min's or 10 it will strip her hair just like the lice shampoo. plus its cheap way to get rid of them. Just wash all of her sheets throw away her brush, take all of her stuffed animals put in a trash bag for 2 months. This should help i hope it does if not email me @ juliebug8877@wmconnect.com. Good Luck

There is no point disinfecting your house. Its not dirt that attract lice, its the smell of your blood/hormones emitted they like. This is why usually teenagers are unlikely to pick up head lice, due to hormonally changes in the body.

You need to keep your childs hair short.

Contact the school/nursery that she attends as it could be that another kid she has close contact with is reinfecting her.

Treat her hair with conditioner on dry hair and comb it through each night (before rinsing out the conditioner) as this will get rid of the live bugs that are there.

Also, there is a new electronic comb that electrocutes them you might want to look into this. Think it's called Robi-pro.

Go to the doctor and demand they get more shampoo. I wouldn't put perm in a child's hair. She might end up bald in which case that might help kill them..........Just repeat the Nix shampoo and pray it go away.
