to use the toilet? I read about it and know how to do it but do you have to start when they are first learning how to use the litter box or can it be done at any age? (my kittens are 8 months old)

Hi there...most cats can learn to be toilet trained at any age, however the older the cat the more time it will be required since they are very much "creatures of habit". 8 months young is a good age to begin toilet training. The key to toilet training cats is exercising an inordinant amount of patience during training. Many cats will have accidents around the home to let you know they may not be comfortable with the changes during training so it's important to back up a step during the process until they are thoroughly consistent before progressing forward again. Some cats will learn ton average in 3 months and others around upward to 18 months. It's always individual to the cat's comfort level as well as the teacher's experience.

Have a lot of patience if you would like to consider toilet training. Remember the most important thing is to go at your kittens pace as you would like to discourage accidents so they too do not become a bad habit later for you to manage. Training multiple cats it's always best to go at the pace of the kitten that is slower at catching on before advancing to the next level of the training process as well.

Finally, consider joining a toilet training group on Yahoo Groups: http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/Felinetoilettraining/ . Everyone not only lends support to one another but also provide helpful tips that may work for your kitten while you are training together.

Nah I think it's a good idea to have them used to the litter box before you move onto using the toilet so they get that were there's litter that's where they go. I figure you'll be using one of those seat things that you put the litter in & take a little out each week until you replace it with water then take the seat away.

Don't do this, it is unnatural. Plus cats cannot hold themselves like a human can so if someone is in there you can't expect a cat to hold its self! It will go on your clothes, bed or floor etc! Plus that is disgusting! Keep a clean litter box. Yea, i heard of people trying this and what they don't tell you is that they have sat in cat pee many times, and cat poo that stuck to the lid, waste around the bathroom etc. Now, I think you would not want to have suffer that in the midle of the night when you get up and use the bathroom and sit in that! Also, can you go in there when it stinks like cat waste? EWWWWWWW! Go ahead dear, it is your turn and put your make up on too. Forget the perfume, it won't help.( not meaning to be a smart alec). One more thing, a cat can fall head first and drown, the toilets are too slipery and cats annot get their way back out once fallen in head first. Can you forgive yourself if that should ever happen? Let a cat grow up to live a normal happy life. It shoul never nor could it act like a human when it comes to a toilet.

No. Might take great patients in teaching them or they might catch on right away. You won't know till you try. You could try placing them in litter box after eating, one at time.

It's my understanding that they can be taught at any age...I'd rather be starting at 8 mths though than 8 yrs!

Good luck!

(I really think it's worth trying!)
