I have seen people do this saying they make sure it is a fresh flush, and the dog gets cold water. I still worry about a dogs health when I hear about this.

I don't "let" my 3 dogs drink out of the toilet, but that is nothing compared to what the dogs get into. The puppy eats his own poo, so, little clean toilet water will not do them any harm.

No. Totally aside from all the germs in there, there is chemical residue from cleaning the toilet. If they really want their dog to get cold water, then they should put fresh water in his bowl!

I would never let any of my 3 dogs or my cat drink from the toilet. I have too much respect for them.
Whether or not it will harm them is of no significance.
Drinking from the toilet is off limits to all family members!
