I hear that alot. " Christians are brainwashed ". I rather thought I have been out washing brains... telling them of the Lover...the Beloved... and letting them see the bright and shining faces of Jesus...helping them go with us...walking in His river of spice filled worship...soaking away all pain and negativity from their little brainy souls....

Ever since I can remember as a little girl... I have felt this bright invisible star of spiritual enlightenment in my being...in my belly. As soon as He..Jesus..appeared to me... and some kind of heavenly bliss...and laughter. Anyone got a brain that needs washing ?

But I can guarantee you that you will get some real Religion bashing answers from them.

That's not the meaning of the expression. Brainwashing means sticking into some people's heads ideas which are not true, but which favour their point of view. I mean, such things as "atheists believe in hell", "atheists have no morals", "masturbating is wrong", "homosexuality is wrong", "all unbelievers are there to bash Christianity", "you cannot attack the church without attacking the believers" and a lot more. Those statements are blatantly false, but SOME Christians (okay? I said "SOME") are too blind to see that. That's what I call brainwashing. It's washing their colourful brains with bleach!

LMAO

You Christians call it 'Renewing the mind daily','Bringing every thought captive and seeing how it measures up to the 'Word of God'", 'Bringing your children up in the 'Ways of the Lord'", Many Christians would openly admit that they want to be brainwashed by the 'Lord'

It would be great if Christians kept their religion to themselves, but its no secret that they do not. Most christian sects want the whole world to be christian. They want their dogma taught in schools in place of science and reality. Its no secret what Christians seek in order to control people and 'force' them into being Christians.
IF there are some Christians that DO NOT like atheist publicly criticising the religion, then MAKE sure your other christian partners and leaders stop using the law to enforce your religion. Its SIMPLE. If they are the 'Bad Christians' and you are the 'good ones', then do something about it.
Do nothing, and we are forced to.

As for 'Brainwashing'
'Brainwashing' is just a negative word for conditioning. And there is beneficial conditioning, and detrimental conditioning. Christianity, not like some other religions, is detrimental conditioning.
'Atheist willingly choose to burn in hell for all eternity" If you believe that , then you are seriously deceived/'brainwashed'.

you say "Ever since I can remember as a little girl.". Thats right, they get you when you are young, like me and millions of others. So as to make it much harder for you to see past their BS. Strong believers though are commonly from abusive housholds. . Dont forget Jesus says 'Become like a little child', 'You must be Born again'. Like Socrates said "First you must unlearn all that you have been taught". Too much brainwashing in society anyway, so meditate, and find yourself. Realise even the animals dont need to 'know' our delusions to live.

Edward Hunter came up with the term brainwashing in 1951 to refer to how the Chinese were able to convince captured US soldiers to accept the communist belief system.

Brainwashing refers to a set of techniques used to make a believe something that is not true. It is true that many Christian groups such as Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses use brainwashing, or more accurately mind control to manipulate its members. However not all Christian religions follow the techniques, and so can not really be said to be brainwashing its members.

It is easy for a person to say anyone that does not share their beliefs is brainwashed, but this term is really quite overused in such situations.

Well in this case the more correct word is indoctrination, you where taught as a child to make a presupposition that some thing exists, thus growing up with no one challenging that presupposition it became deeply etched into your consciousness and altered your personal reality to fit the presupposition. Think of it just like Santa clause, as you got older you discovered the truth and others acknowledged the fact it was a fairly tail, unlike the god(s) fairy tail where every one has and still will tell you that it is true despite the contrary reality.

Some atheists are brainwashed as are some Christians. The point is...atheists don't believe your nagging belly warrants eternal damnation nor eternal salvation. We all get feelings of bliss...it's called endorphins. And if Jesus is appearing to me you may actually have a mental disorder and should seek help. The problem is that god cannot be as christians proclaim him to be. He cannot be the creator of all and not have created evil as well. I constantly hear the same reply...man chose evil...however, man cannot chose that which doesn't exist. Therefore god had to have created the choice for evil...therefore all evil comes from god. When you have a friend who gets raped, be sure to comfort her and let her know that god created rape...child molestation, murder...abortion...all of these things had to have been created somewhere...and since god was the only thing in the beginning all flowed from him...makes you kinda uneasy about your 'loving' god. Grow up and let go of the fairy tale. We are born, we die...nothing more nothing less if you want to dilude yourself then by all means do so...just don't expect those of us who can rationally see that there is not god to do it with you.

The reason athiests refuse to bend to christianity is this.

The bible says it gives freedom of choice, but then says the only way to get into heaven is to believe that Jesus died for your sins, and ask him to forgive you trespasses, such as in "The Lord's Prayer".

The facilicy of religion becomes a bifurication (an either or statement). Either you believe or You go to hell. That is not a choice of free will in any twisted sense of the word. That is an ultimatum, and it is what causes most athiests to think the way they do.

Above that, is the fact that most christians quote scripture as if they were all brainwashed to say the same things over, and over again. It's time for christians to come to reality that most people in this world are muslim, hindu, etc.

If you want to convert...first start by studying other religions, and then form your oppinion on which one suites you best. Please don't insult our inteligence by spouting off the same phrases your parents spouted off to you.

The fact is...you would not be a christian unless someone told you what one was and the reasons you should be one. If you grew up in Uganda or Tibbet you wouldn't even recognize christianity as a religion. The regions in the middle East, where christianity was formed by imperialistic invaders, don't even recognize it as a valid religion, yet a tool the catholics used to try and steal land "by the grace of god".

A famouse quote:
When asked by a court judge if he was partially responsible for the uprising in youth violence due to his religious beliefs, he said "It would take a far greater effort than possible for my followers to kill as many people that have died in the name of christianity and catholicism".
-Anton LeVey (Founder of the Church of Satan).

Ok, I know this question is to Atheists but I have something to say. I follow the teachings of Jesus best I can, I have read the Bible, studied it for years, and still have an open mind about anything new that I can learn from it and from others. I learn from people of many religions and beliefs. Most of what I learn from others reinforces my Faith.

In open company, I usually do not refer to myself as a Christian. The very word itself means to be "Like Christ". It is not for me to say that I am like Him. It is for non-believers to say that, or not. I want to be like Him. I want to be able to help people and heal the pain of my 'neighbors'. What I see happening in many churches is a loveless, cold calculated interpretation of Law. The Law is levied to bring judgment and condemnation on those who don't follow it. It has absolutely nothing to do with what Jesus taught. It is what the Pharisees taught. Jesus taught us how to Love; he taught about Faith and he gives people like me Hope. If you want to be like Jesus, reach down into your pocket all the way down to your shoe and give everything you pull out to the next homeless person you meet.

I used to feel the same way when I was little. It was a delusion brought on by being around people who drilled Jesus into me constantly. I do consider that I was brainwashed as a young child. I'm free of the bonds of religion now and couldn't be happier. Peace to you, but read your words. They sound fanatical.

My dear, you are not brainwashed; you have been programmed. You said it yourself, even before you can remember as a little girl...
