I must do a 28 day inpatient drug rehab program. I am worried about leaving my dog. We are together 24/7. He trusts only me and listens to only me. He has other human friends that will be looking after him. Should I be so worried he will not respond to me as he does now?

No, don't worry. He will be thrilled to see you.. I have had to leave my dogs for similar periods of time, and they are always happy when I return..VERY clingy for a few days..
Dogs normally take about 3 weeks to forget trauma..So, it may be up to 3 weeks before he relaxes, and behaves as normal.

You have to go into a drug rehab program, why not try and get your dog registered as a helping dog? There are such things these days. Meaning your dog can go with you!

This is something you should check out! Otherwise your dog is going to miss you to death! Maybe not eat real well while you are gone and may cry for you, but this is something you have to do. Your dog will remember you and be so happy when you get home!
Also if your dog is with you 24/7's is your dog hooked on the same drug you are on? It happens... if so whom ever you have to take care of your dog may want to no this. Your dog may have the same with drawls you will be going through.....

I wish you the BEST of luck in rehab!

I understand exactly how you feel. I had to be separated from my dog for 1 year....it was really hard for me, but she was really happy to see me and now we are closer than ever. She even became more obedient!

I'm sure your dog will be fine for only 28 days. They adjust really well, and it'll make you guys feel even closer when you are reunited.

Good luck!

It won't be a problem. My dog was away training for 5 months, and he had no problem coming home, and certainly remembered his people. Dogs are really really good at keeping track of their peeps.

I think your dog will get used to his temporary caretakers and when you return he will respond to you as he always has. Please take care of yourself and try not to worry. Be Well!

No. He'll remember you. He might have some abandonment issues(when you get back, he'll get upset if you leave him alone), but he'll be fine.
