It depends on several factors, such as how many rooms are available, seasonal demand, conventions, star rating, etc.

The best resource for figuring this out is Biddingfortravel.com. Read the hotels section for the areas you need to visit. You should see what was recently accepted by Priceline, and prices that Priceline rejected. It will also describe the hotels that previous Priceline winners got in the area you want to stay, so it's not a complet mystery.

Always figure out what the lowest available rate is before bidding with Priceline. Booking Buddy's hotel search is a great way to get best prices from many sources quickly. Familiarize yourself with Priceline's fees, too, so you don't end up overbidding.

Have you tried Orbitz? I got a sweet hotel deal that beat out a lot of the other spots including Priceline. Depending on where your traveling too, staying over on a Saturday night might knock off a few bucks. Also try and find specials that include "5th or 6th night is free" deals...
Also, try www.travelzoo.com they sometimes have good stuff too
