My best friend (now husband) said to say to me "What is the worst that can happen?" He would get me to try and imagine the worst that could happen. No imaginary situation ever lived up to that so I began to feel much more confident in any situation.

I now earn a living as a professional public speaker! The irony is not lost on me!!!

I like to take a deep breath and think of it as a learning experience or something I can make fun. Sometimes I analyze the situation and ask myself just how bad is it really going to be and imagine the worse possible scenario. Then I laugh it off and try to put it out of my mind.
I think the key is to ask yourself what's really causing the anxiety and to try to address it. I don't think you'll see a change in yourself overnight but I guess it also depends on how dedicated you are.
The thing about confidence is that you can't fake it. However, I've found that the less insecure I feel in a situation, the more confident I feel. If I'm out in public, I have to remember that I may be making myself feel overly self-conscious and that I have to turn off that negative voice inside my head that I'm passing off as others'.

I know I touched on a few different ideas but I hope that helps somehow. :-)

Spray on some perfume that reminds me of wonderful times. I keep it especially for that purpose. I "charge it" by using it whenever I know for sure I am going to have a wonderful time. Then, if there's a really uneasy situation coming up, I spray some on, close my eyes and breathe deeply, then go get 'um.

Just tell myself.. I gotta do this .. Just think in a couple hours it will be over, so do the best you can. Make it as easy as you can on yourself. It seems like (sometimes) ya put more pressure on your self.. the actual deed is "no prob." make since?

I've heard that taking Excedrin can help you out in social situations. It's probably the caffeine.
