WOW! If you ask that question to a New Yorker, you would get from one to one hundred answers, if you asked people from Chicago, you might get another hundred answers. I'm just one person and I have my favorite hot dog preparation, so I'll let you know, but you have to understand that I'm from San Francisco, for one thing, and my tastes are not typical. That said, here goes:

I like to heat the sausage (any kind of hot dog or sausage) in a frying pan. I make diagonal slits along the top and bottom of the dog. Then I split it lengthwise and place it inside down in a frying pan and brown it. Then I turn it over and brown the outside as well. Lastly, I throw a cup full of water into the hot pan so that it is brown and juicy at the same time.

I take rye bread (preferably a Jewish rye) and put mustard, sliced kosher dill pickle (Bubbies or Clauson, not the kind with vinegar), and saurkraut that has been slightly heated in the microwave and then drained on paper towels. I pile this all up and place the hot dog on top. It is a feast. Takes some careful manipulation to eat it without losing all the filling, but if worse comes to worst (or wurst), you can always use a knife and fork.

Whatever you do to a hot dog is fair game. Sometimes I just take them and cut them up into my bean or barley or split pea soup, especially when the weather gets chilly.

Enjoy!

Hot dogs are a processed meat product made by mixing chopped meat with various curing ingredients, flavorants, and colorants. The meat is then stuffed in casings, cooked, removed from the casing, and put in the final package. Although the technology for hot dog making was developed thousands of years ago, these meat products continue to be a popular summertime food. In fact, in America alone over 16 billion hot dogs are consumed each year.

I liked to boil them or microwave them for about 1 min. 45 sec. if frozen then put them on a nice fresh hot dog bun and put just a little miracle whip, mustard, catup and sweet relish on it and if I am in the mood a slice of cheese, and if I am really in the mood some chili without beans.

Now I'm hungry for a hot dog.
