I am a non-believer and I am not opposed to prayer in school. What I am opposed to is making it mandatory. Students have always had the right to pray in school.

In a country that claims to grant freedom of religion, state schools can NOT have prayers at school! The moment you accept that, you've become a confessional country. And even though you must be a believer, I'm sure you don't want unbelievers not having our rights granted, do you?

Anyone who thinks there's no prayer in schools wasn't in my Algebra 2 class during finals. What was banned, and rightfully so, was the practice of forcing non-Christians to actively participate in Christian religious rituals. A friend of mine attended a school where students were required to say a prayer to Jesus before lunch, if they didn't they weren't allowed to eat. I had a teacher who to right fundamentalist Christian prayers on the blackboard before class and paddle kids who didn't say it loud enough. I've seen teachers stand in front of the class and denounce Jews or Mormons and tell the class how lucky they were they, being proper Christians, were going to burn in Hell with them. You honestly think that was good thing and want to go back to it? What possible benefit comes from preaching violence and hate in the name of Jesus? Do you think he would have approved? He called public prayer a mark of hypocrisy, and said you should only do it in private, check out the Sermon of the Mount.

I don't. I have no problem with private prayer in school, so long as no member of the faculty or staff is leading students in prayer.
However if some little bible beater tells my kids they're going to hell, that little darlings parents and I WILL have words. that is UTTERLY unacceptable.

when were we supposed to expect prayer in school? i did not get that note. um...if you do not have prayer at home then it should not matter if it is not in school either...education does not need god in it, it is a matter of opinion and if you want your kid to learn about religion then let your kid learn it where ever you worship your god and not force it upon other children and their beliefs.

I don't expect OR WANT prayer in school. Or in my home, either.

It's simple....Since school is like the second home of a child he could start praying at school...and once he accustomed himself to it he could influence his home and prayer will spread...

I believe most forms of public education lack the education. My children are in home studies. They are not only being educated but they are allowed to pray and worship without having to put up with people trying to stop them. It is sad that many Christians are being treated poorly by the secular community.

Any prayer is great, no matter where you get it, as long as it is to the real God!
