I have two school photos of my kids - wallet sized - that I want to make reprints of. We don't have the negatives. Does anyone remember the ads in the back of magazines like Family Circle or Women's Day - I used to order from those years ago but can't find the name now...

HAS ANYBODY HERE EVER HEARD OF COPYRIGHT?!?!?!!!!!!
If YOU are NOT the photographer you CANNOT make copies of the pictures! You would need the photographer's permission (in most US-states you'd need it in writing) or you'd have to go through the photographer to order reprints.
Wal-Mart, Walgreen's and so on are NOT allowed to make copies if those are professional photographs!
There are huge fines (up to $10.000!) if you break copyright laws. It's a federal law.

You will likely have to contact Lifetouch for reprints. You should be able to order online if the wallets you already have came with a portrait ID and access code. It's very unlikely Lifetouch would grant you permission to reproduce the prints somewhere else, particularly if they were taken recently.

Yeah, it is illegal to reproduce copyrighted pictures. Most places have rules against it (like Wal-Mart, etc) but a lot of them don't follow their own rules. As a photographer, I should get irritated (like that last person did!) about people breaking copyright laws, but everyone does it and I've got bigger things to worry about.

Why don't you just order more through the school photographer?

Wal-mart has an excellent photo editing place. You can do it your self which is cheaper, or have an associate do it for you. You might also want to look into getting a all in one printer, copier, scanner. Lexmark has some great deals on them right now. Of course that would only be if you are going to use it for future projects to. I have one and I use mine a lot.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

Do it yourself at the photo copy machine in every Walgreens and Wal mart.

you can have the reprints done at Walmart but only if they do not have a company logo on them, otherwise you could always pring them at home if you have a color printer and can set it to print photos
