unfortunately drug dealers, are often involved with other crimes, like prostitution and people trafficking so the police spend time gathering all the evidence to get these people locked up.

Drug users are a huge drain on resources, they require medical treatment etc. They also often commit other crimes to feed there habit, so the police and government need to spend time and money on catching and educating these people in order to prevent others taking the same path in life.

The govt makes tons of money and spends it on their own . the plot of drug war has been obviated from your view.look deeper for the truth . it's very corrupt! even when the CIA makes money on drug deals reported before congress to support their political ambitions it is airbrushed just as quickly but still available to those that know how to find it. it is better than welfare even if it does step on Americans rights . these laws are often unconstitutional but the supreme court is not beyond corruption either. peace out enjoy what u can!

Yeah, the war on drugs is waste of time and resources. They never cut significantly into the supply nor the demand.

Then our prisons get clogged with people who are no real threat to society, and killers get paroled to make room for someone who was busted with a few ounces for the third time.
