'm a man, and have a really poor sense of direction and can't remember maps/streets. I sometimes even forget where I parked! It sounds funny, but is incredibly frustrating.

Can someone suggest something beyond the obvious - "stay alert" "get a gps" Any mental tricks to get a good sense of direction? How do you navigate? How do you learn streets and maps when you moved to a new city? How do you remember where you parked? I believe everyone does something subconsciously that they learned consciously, but I skipped that lesson somehow :)

Any help is appreciated!

Im the same way. I use my surroundings like a store or a fast food place. So its like " ok i pass up mcdonalds and turn left by the exxon gas station". and also what helps me is writting down every street name and left or right turn before i go to a place im not familiar with. Hope this helps.

Keep a pen and paper with you in your pants pocket or jacket. Jot down what row you parked in if it's at a place of business. As far as the street, right it down as soon as you can after you turn onto it. Keep a compass in your car so you always know what direction you are going, etc.

go and see a docoter about it and see it they can make suggestions as to what you can do.

Meantime try and exercise your brain by playing memory games like the card game ' Memory' or board games or crosswords and that kind of thing tends to stregthen your brain and give it a work out just like exercising your muscles when running or whatever.

When you park your car, mabey you can write down familair land marks along the way like ' yes i passed that big statue of a monkey' and i remember looking into that shop window' things like that that can help you jog your memory.

hope that helps
