I don't know exactly how to word the question. But something that I find really annoying living in the U.S. is that most Americans think all Mexicans are the same.

But Mexicans coming to the US, in the majority, are low class Mexicans with little educational background and from the rural areas.

Yet, many people seem to think all Mexicans are like that or have to be like that.

Sometimes, people are surprised that I'm Mexican... because I'm different. But that bothers me, because Mexico is just like any other country, with educated people and uneducated people. Nice people and rude people and so on.

Who would be the most to migrate? well, obviously the poorer.

Its like if all those American people like the ones from Jerry Springer migrated to lets say ... Europe. Then people at Europe might think that all Americans are like that. But that wouldn't be true.

What do you think? That happens a lot? I think so, but I'm open to answers/comments. Please be respectful.

Hi,
While i agree with you for the most part, i think richer mexicans have as many incentives to move as much as poor ones! i mean, if they dont like the fact that there are many poor mexicans, itll be a push factor.
i know how it is. i live in singapore, where many ladies come and work as housekeepers. most of them come from the philippines and indonesia.
And its sad that the average streetperson always assumes that all filipinas are maids.

Good question. The answer is obviously no, we are not all the same.

Now for all the people talking about how all the Mexicans are coming over here illegally..

How much of a hypocrite can you be? Do you realize that each and every one of you (unless of course if you're Native American) have ancestors that came to this country the EXACT SAME WAY MEXICANS DO IT NOW. They came in order to live the American dream, just like MOST Mexicans want. Now it's completely ridiculous to criticize the Mexicans for wanting the exact same thing that everyone in this world (including YOUR ancestors) wants. It just so happens that Mexico is just south of the United States.

I do agree it is a problem, but how are you going to sit there and say it's the Mexican's fault. Your ancestors got their chance, why not Mexicans? Sure it's a different time, but why is it okay for your family and not a Mexican's family? That's the better question.

Unfortunately, stereotyping happens with a lot of different people from different backgrounds. I believe it's because people only notice the bad and not the good in people, mexican or otherwise. All we hear about now a days are the illegal immigrant that hop the border and take advantage of america has worked so hard to build. What we don't hear about is how many legal immigrants helped make this country what it is.

I think its sad that there are a select few that give the rest bad reputations.

Well, what is Mexico doing to elevate the conditions of their people, besides sending them off in droves to the United States?

How much can it possibly cost to build schools, hospitals, and so forth? Start companies? How many more billions are we supposed to send Mexico before it all starts to materialize? Why don't we hear more in the news about all the progress they're making? Success stories? Where'd all that money go? Something's not right with this entire business, and the more I read about the entire mess, the more questions I've got. LEGAL immigration only, and that includes Mexico.

No, and I don't care what your back ground is as long as you learn to and speak English and are here legally.
Mexico's government is ripping off it's people and dumping the poorest and the least educated on the US...even telling them how to sneak in.
Mexicans need to force changes in their government.
I'm sick of illegals waving Mexican flags and demanding that we kiss their asses.
You asked us to be respectful, I am to a degree, but I am sick of the problems that ALL illegals cause.

No, a minimum of no longer me. I evaluate my Mexican area to be area Spanish (like the Dominicans and Puerto Ricans) yet in addition area community American. quite some the indigenous people of Dominican Republic and PR died out formerly integrating with the Spanish.

Of course you are right. Mexico has many different types of economic and education levels and even different races and languages of people.
All Americans are not the same and even all the white people from one city are certainly not the same. People are individuals.

Nobody is the same. But they should also not do illegal things just because a bunch of others got away with it. That is not an invitation for others to do the same. Mexicans are generalized because they follow each other and think it is ok because someone else did it.

it's because 90% come here illegally, lie, steal and sell drugs when they get here, form violent gangs. this makes them all look bad. it's getting to be like finding one good apple in a bushel of rotten ones. why don't the legal mexicans help fight that stereotype by helping to get the illegals out of here.

I am American and my husband is Mexican. My husband owns his own business. We are very well respected members of our community. My husband came here 10 years ago as one of the uneducated, farm workers who spoke no English and didn't have two dimes to rub together. In that short time he has taught himself English and speaks fluently. He has gone from working in the fields for $3/hr. to a 6-figure income. We own one of the nicest historical homes in our town. Yet, when people see us together sometimes they yell racial slurs. They judge him and judge us based solely on his race. It's sad that our country has deteriorated back to the days of civil unrest when the blacks were fighting for civil rights. I never thought I would live to see the day when open hatred and intolerance for another race would be openly practiced and accepted again in our country. I would be curious to know how many in this very forum have a better "success story" than my formerly illegal husband. The Americans who are born and raised here. How many of you are living the American dream that my poor, uneducated husband worked so hard for and gained?
