Wait until you go to court and ask for the "calibration sheets" on that officers radar gun. These machines/guns, have to maintain regular calibrations in order to be admitted into evidence.

The officer MUST provide the sheets on the SPOT! Otherwise his "radar" is not admissible.

Here's a trick for ya. This doesn't beat the fine but the points.
Overpay the ticket by say, 3.00.
So you get a 250.00 ticket, send in a cheque for 253.00.
The computers don't know what to do with the extra bucks, so they can't mark the ticket as resolved. every 30 days or so, the computer will send the ticket to collections. The collector will see on his screen the ticket has been paid, and won't action you. He'll send the file back. The computer won't know what to do with the 3.00 overpayment.....blah blah blah.
You won't get collected, because even they can see the ticket is paid. The computer can't mark the file resolved unless it has a perfect balance, so it can't issue the command to ding you 3 or 4 points or whatever it is. By the time the mistake is discovered and corrected, your points will likely have dropped off a long time ago, so....No Points.

As far as radar gun, they aren't 100% accurate. If you're over 10% of the speed, go to court, you have a 50/50 chance of winning. If its over that, have your lawyer challenge the gun used. This will cost a whack of cash, so I wouldn't bother unless you're rich and planning to run for senator and need a perfect record.

Lastly, get your court date, and pray that on that date, the cop is off. He won't come. You automatically win.

Yeah what he said about going the speed limit works best. You really gain nothing by speeding. You get to the next red light 4 seconds ahead of the guy you almost killed yourself to pass. You get stopped by cops which is a real time saver. You get to appear in court and pay outlandish sums of money out for that big hurry you're in. Then your car insurance shoots up and even the cute little lizard can't help you.
If you got popped with a radar gun, instead of trying to beat the ticket, try to learn something from it. Avoiding the next one is your best bet.

The only way I know is to get a lawyer to get the ticket fixed. You will get a ticket such as "defective breaks" but where I live, it won't cause your insurance rates to go up.

The advice about paying the incorrect amount is totally bogus and is debunked at snopes.com: http://www.snopes.com/autos/law/ticket.asp
