I want to believe in the god of the bible, but....
I go to church because I like to hear the stories. They are fun, and pastors and sunday school teachers are better story tellers than the ladies at the library. Most of them believe it. Hm, fun.

I was wondering if christians and athiests disagreed on everything or if it was possible they would both be offended at the same thing.
I found that (drum roll, please) it is possible for christians and athiests to agree on something. Congratulations all. You are one step closer to being bosum buddies!
Step by Step (as old Rich Mullins would say)

But honestly, I was raised christian, and I really believed it and I asked god into my heart and everything. I like to feel that god had/has a hand in my life, but I am not sure that it is more than a feeling. I started doubting when I really started reading the Bible and thinking about what I read, started to watch the way christians condemn everyone that disagrees with them, and when I started to ask myself what I really believe.
So far I have come to the conclusion that I want to believe in a god on an emotional level, but I would have to abandon my openmindedness and not really think about what I am told.
There is still a lot of inner conflict. Not that I will ever be christian. It's just that I always thought that I knew the truth, and now I have to deal with the uncertainty of knowing that I really don't know anything.

AM I REALLY A CHRISTIAN ATHIEST?
Honestly, the question wasn't intentionally sincere. However, I do believe in the love I was taught that Christ preached about. I do believe that if we were more like christ (especially those who call themselves by his name, christians) that our world would be a better place. However, I find that most religious people I talk to are more like the pharisees that Jesus did not get along with because they were close minded, judgemental, and interpretted the scriptures to mean what they wanted them to mean.
I know that there are many christians who are a lot like the christ that I learned about and admire. And I don't mean to make light of your convictions even though I don't share them. However, I think that those of you who are most like christ don't feel they need to condemn everyone to hell because they believe differently. Christ would love an athiest even if he did not believe in god because god loves all his creation- not just the christians

I don't mean to be rude... but you cannot be a Christian atheist.
To say in one breath you believe in Christ and that there is no God is hypocritical. If you do not believe that there is a God, that He created Adam and Eve as well as the rest of the world, and that God sent Christ to reconcile Man and God, then you are either calling Jesus a liar or a crazy man.
I think I know why you encounter rudeness. Your comment about Christian beliefs ridicules it as a set of children's stories. Most people would become defensive when they're being insulted (as I'm sure you would be if insulted enough.)
Please, if you do not care enough to respect Christian's beliefs, then do not call your self a Christian Atheist.

No I don't think any one else encounters that problem because no one else would ever make a statement like that!
How about trying to be a meat eating vegetarian?
Or how about an atheist Christian ?
You seem to be a mixed up person altogether!
Why do you want to believe in the God of the bible??
I agree almost all stories told by church people are interesting and that some teachers actually believe them.
The bibles (both of them) are interesting so are lots of other religious 'Holy' books, read some more of them!
I've read most, before making my mind up they were all rubbish!! Interesting but rubbish!!

I understand you i think. I read the bible because I love history and mythology. As a kid I just didnt think God of the bible was real, until I read it myself.
Its nothing like greek or eastern mythology. When people told the stories it seemed exactly the same to me. (hercules=Samson)
But reading it in context or rather studying it shocked me how superficial most churchgoers was about the knowledge of the bible.
It also crushed my atheistic views when compared to my favorite historical classics.
BTW. You cant be an atheist christian!! Its impossible
You have to believe Christ came from GOD atleast to be a Christian.
Your an Atheist church goer. Keep enjoying the storytellers and study it for self a little too.

You can't technically be both. Going to church to hear the stories is great, but doesn't make you a Christian.Being a Christian means "being Christlike". That means living out the great commision by spreading the good news of the gospel. But if you have never accepted Christ as your savior, you aren't equipped to do this. Keep going and don't label yourself. You sound like you are just beginning a journey. Be honest with people about where you are spiritually. Most people are pretty understanding.

You actually sound more like an agnostic. That's someone who isn't sure whether there is a deity or not. You may come to a decision either way some day but not just right now.
"Agnostic" is way less inciting than "atheist" to religionists. It sounds like you might be convinced. Although I have to say the term "christian atheist" is kind of neat. Gives the impression that you don't believe in any other religions except those that are Christian-based.

If you go to Church and find that listening to Bible stories brings you peace and comfort, and if you WANT to believe in God as you said, then perhaps your spirit is feeling a stirring of truth. Perhaps you are an athiest who is beginning to see the light of Christianity?? You may be walking the line and still investigating both sides. Good luck in whatever you decide. And God bless...

Sorry, but you aren't Christian if you go to church to 'hear the stories'. It's okay, you know? I am not a Christian, either. But I believe that being a Christian entails a lot more than just going to church to hear the stories. I won't be rude, but I think you don't qualify as a Christian OR as an atheist. But never mind, as long as you're a good person, your faith is irrelevant.

Love the stories of the bible but to fully understand one must know the lord. Talking an christian there should not be a mixture with God combined with atheist. Keep going to church cause eventually you will come to know the savior of the world.

quite, the Jewish perception (depending on sect and time) is that "Lucifer" or devil is an angel that teaches people by trials. In Jewish custom, devil isn't a fallen angel (that seems a basically Christian thought that the Muslims copied), he's in simple terms an angel that visits trials and temptations on people to coach and enlighten them. once you study interest in this easy, it makes lots greater experience. Edit: be conscious,: it is quite stupid to declare that God is all understanding and then turn around and declare that God created an angel that could create evil and revolt. it is much greater unthinkable that an all understanding god might create a inhabitants of angels which might have a million/3 revolt - quite by way of fact the version between angels and people is that angels don't have loose will. of direction, if angels had loose will, why might people be needed?

You cannot be both! You are either A) Christian and serve God and have Jesus as your savoiur, and as God has promised us, everlasting life in Heaven, or B) You are an atheist and you don't believe and as the Bible says if you turn your back on God he will turn his back on you, and you will be cast into the lake of fire and brimstone for eternal death in hell! Answer this, which one sounds better to you?
