some orders still live in convents, they are cliostered (don't come out in public)

other orders do live in houses or what they call "communities, usually 3-4 rent a house and live together (of course the house is paid for by the catholic church)

Others who are old live in a retirment home just for nuns

I know because I used to work with retired nuns

Convents, monestaries and homes. It depends on a number of different things:
If a single nun is working in an area, perhaps doing hospital ministry, it would be inconvenient and expensive to maintan a convent, so this woman would live perhaps in an apartment.

A group of nuns running a school would likely have a convent.

Some nuns, such as the Sisters Contemplative of the Precious Blood have monestaries around the world.

In my town, we have two nuns who had separate appartments. When a local church started sharing a pastor with another church, this left one rectory free and they now share that building. Mostly it depends on the mission and the resources.

I've stayed in one for two summers working at a historical site. The retired nun 'sisters' were still in residence. They were way cool and the sweetest ladies I've ever met. It wasn't actually a convent but an old catholic boarding school. It was huge with many floors and the rooms were way tiny. Kind of hard to live in while staying there for 4-5 months with most of your belongings. They had a huge kitchen downstairs in the basement, with a dining room for the sisters. Is there any reason why your parents want to send you to a convent? There should be a reason that you are not telling us. There are not many convents left in America today, that I know of. A few in Louisiana I believe, I could be wrong.

Convent or Parish aparments.

We have a big building full of them out back behind the local Catholic Church.

A Priest might get a house.

Ministers usually do (Protestants).
