Sectarian is something which is related to a particular sect.now a sect is a group of people from a religious community who have differrent religious beliefs...

The word sect comes from the Latin secta (from sequi to follow), meaning (1) a course of action or way of life, (2) a behavioural code or founding principles, (3) a specific philosophical school or doctrine.

sectarian means the two or more divisions of a religious community ,calledthe 'sects' , based upon their beliefs. the Jains in India have two sect: swetambars and the digambars. muslims have shias and sunnis. anything related with sect is called sectarian.
