Ok, I pulled the engine trouble code of 15 from the check engine light by temp shorting terminals A & B. Truck sat for several months and now I'm getting it ready for winter. It cranks fine, after warming up and idling for at least 8-10 minutes it just stops. Now, it will NOT start after that unless I let it sit for several hours. But then it does the same thing. I've driven it down the gas station and filled the half tank full of premium, drove home and it conked out as I got home. I've started it at least 5 times now with the same results. Started with new air filter, PCV valve... have new fuel filter to do this weekend. Again, the trouble code is 1 blink, pause, then 5 blinks which from what I can make... it has to do with the coolant temp sensor reading "below" a min value rating. is this the reason it won't start back up until I wait just about all day? Sorry for it being so long but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wow, I didn't know I'd get so many responses so quickly. Let me add this (forgot about it when originally typing it in). When it first stopped, I did shoot some starter fluid into the intake (opened the butterfly and shot twice) but it didn't even fire. Also, this is a Throttle Body fuel Injection (TBI) not a carb.

Alright guys... you won't believe this but here's the resolution to my problem. It actually WAS the coolant temp. sensor! I cleared the codes today and kept getting the code 15. I had to stop going against logic and start dealing with the intially obvious, so I went and got the darn sensor for $8.99 and installed it. After starting it again, she ran... and ran... and ran... with no check engine light! I'll be darned... ECU's aren't stupid after all. Thanks for all of your suggestions! I don't know how to mark this as answered but thanks again.

It sounds like as the thermostat opens, the computer alters the timing or fuel or something and until it cools below the "trigger" level, then it's fine. Some type of temp sensor issue.

Either the fuel filter, fuel pump, or clogged carb. I'd bet the fuel filter, which should only be a few dollars. Do you smell gas? Look for leaks around fuel pump if you do, a fuel pump only takes an hour to replace. Make sure you scrape off ALL of the old gasket! The thermostat should be on the block at the output hose to the radiator, again, it's an easy fix, and cheap, it might need replacing.

you need to determine why it quits. the 15 code dosent make sense to me, as it does not run long enough for coolant or engine temp to get normal. it could be an issue, but i dont think it is related to the stalling problem. get a spray can of ether/starter fluid. start it and run it till it quits. give it a shot of starter fluid directly into the intake(not thru the air filter). if it starts right away and runs then quits...give it momentary bursts of starter fluid to keep it running.. if it responds like this you have a fuel problem...bad pump, clogged filter etc.... if it is a carbureator model (not fuel injected or throttle body ) you may have a sticking float valve. See what I mean? it will run on the starter fluid, but not by itself on gas... a fuel supply problem.
NOW,
if giving it a shot of starter fluid makes no difference..it still wont start or run, it sounds like a ignition problem. the spark plugs are not firing. maybe a bad coil or some type of ignition breakdown. it could be as simple as water or moisture in the distributor cap. or a bad coil or coil wire...

Sounds a lot like a Humvee problem I had last week. I suspect (like mine was) that it is your fuel filter. Especially after sitting so long and age of the gas tank. Good chance the fuels gone bad or rust particles have mostly clogged the filter.
What happens if it dies on you an you shot some fuel directly into carburetor? Will it turnover and run while you are feeding it fuel/ether?

seem for a fuse with some style of acceptable labeling, get rid of comparable. If no fuse, seem on the relay financial enterprise below the hood for an appropriatly categorized relay, get rid of comparable. If the two certainly one of those ideas fail, attempt right here. Open the door and use your ears. pay attention and shop on with the sound to it is source. once you think of you have it, touch the container, it may be vibrating. If the container is plugged right into a socket, get rid of the container from the socket. If it has twine fantastic out of it, shop on with the twine to a factor the place it is disconnected. i do no longer advise reducing the twine as you would be able to correctly be wrong and could desire to repair the equipment. FYI, confirm to examine out the workings of all the different bells and buzzers when you disable the door buzzer. On some autos one buzzer could be powered from greater suitable than one source inflicting the buzzer to function in greater suitable than one undertaking. wish that facilitates. BTW, I hate those noisy issues too...
