"Thank You" for sharing that. I came along in 43' so I have seen an awful lot of changes in my 62 yrs. The only thing I would add to it : was that there were 5 of us at home together. We all had our chores. We sure didn't grumble about them or doing them. And we all made sure our special chores were done either before we played or made sure we got home in time to do them before dark.I am so thankful for living in the country and was able to raise my 3 on a ranch.

I didnt survive those years because I was not born until 1980 but my parents were exactly like the parents you described I loved being outside playing softball with my friends because the kids I grew up around hated being inside with their parents and were gone from sunrise to sunset outside playing coming inside long enough for a glass of Koolaide and lunch then we were off again until the streetlights came on and it was dinnertime

Kids these days dont know how easy they have it compared to the generations before them without computers, tvs, or even electric indoor plumbing ( it used to get really cold going to the bathroom in the wintertime and having to use an outhouse,my parents once told me)

Okay, so my parents fit into this group, but they made for a horribly disfunctional family and very uneducated parents. Maybe other parents from that age range grew up to be okay(and have okay children), but if that is true, why is depression and drug/alcohol abuse so high among teens and young adults these days?

So So true.I was born in the 70's and really dont envy my kids. You barely see any kids playing outside today. I thought in my neighbourhood there wasnt many kids but the schools are full.So what do they do with their time?

I'm one of them and proud to be! I have memories my own grandchildren will never have and I find it so sad. The worst thing about it is, I can't see things ever getting back to the way they used to be. The price of progress is high, isn't it?

I survived, so did my siblings. I agree with what you wrote, yet I wonder.....how many of us that survived are raising the kids of today?

This may not have been the best place to post this little tidbit of information, but it's still right on the money. Thanks for the reminder!

I hope you say a silent prayer for all those children who died because of all of the above. We don't do those things anymore because children DID die (and still do). The goal is to hopefully have your child survive to adulthood as you did. God smiles on the lucky, and gathers the unlucky.
