I was actually pro-war before my brother joined army national guard. I tried my hardest to try to get him not to join, so did my entire family. It didn't work, he just graduated last august from basic and ait. After he joined he was told he would be deployed to Iraq in '07 or to Afghanistan in '07. My feelings changed once I saw my brother graduate basic, I was really proud of him. I'm still scared for him, but proud.

I think it's a little corrupted though, before he joined the troop he wasn't told a bit of what was going to happen. Then the second he signs the paper and 2 days later the day before he leaves for basic he's told. Then a month or so later in the paper we see that Texas National Guard won't be sending out anymore troops until 2010 and his leader doesn't know what's going to happen. But they're still sending out our troops overseas. They're such liars. That's the only thing that has really gotten to me.

No.
I have a nephew over there now and 2 others in the service who might go over, so obviously my mind would not change.
I actually do believe the draft would help unite America. If all Americans had to serve for 2 years like they do in Israel, wouldn't they have more pride and honor in their country? Think of how the WWII generation was united by a common thread.

11 Iraq and Afghanistan vets are running for national lawmaker positions this year. 10 are running as Democrats, 1 is running as a Republican.

That pretty much says it for me. The best and the brightest coming back want to see a change in direction. So do I. I deregistered from the Republican party, declared myself independant, and plan on voting straight Democrat this year. It doesn't take a draft to convince me, just 5 years of nothing but lies.

One of my best friends is over there right now.... when I say best friend, I mean like a brother to me. Another one of my friends is training to become a SEAL and WANTS to go. If I were called upon to go, I would go proudly. I am against the occupation in Iraq, but I would not avoid my duty if called upon. I support our troops 100%, but do not think that we needed to stay as long as we have or that the US needed to split off from the real issue of finding Osama bin Laden in order to finish off Operation Desert Storm about 10 years later.

No and I have two sons.

My father is a WW11 vet and I am so, so, soooooo
proud of him. Thanks Dad!
He taught me to love America,
Fight for its freedoms,
respect all life (except war Criminals/villians)
Aide those in need (no matter what race or religion)
and to protect this country at all cost!!!!!!!
He gave me an American flag at my wedding

And if you think I feel this way because he survived it,
You are wrong!

His brother and my own uncle died in that war

And if you think I wouldn't be here if my father died,
You're wrong again!

Mt parents adopted me and taught me all these wonderful values.

I will teach them to my children!

Every time I hear of the deaths over there, they ARE a family member!! Of the human race! It hurts everyone, whether they can acknowledge it or not.
And why the he!l haven't we done something to conserve energy in the past 30 years instead of taking over mideastern countries in the name of fighting terrorism?
(I know, you asked the question...)
There are more and more SUV's and bigger and bigger vehicles being marketed every year. Gas guzzlers!

I have four friends who are serving or have served. The three who have returned are all voting Democrat now (two were previously pretty Republican).

I can't say that speaks for everyone in the service (in fact, I know it doesn't), but it certainly says something.

way too many :( I even have 3 kin in the marines jointly with my husband thank god none of them have ever gotten injury over there! (knock on wood) and before everything i did agree by way of fact i lost relatives in 9/11 and that i do no longer think of their deaths could have went unjustified yet now i think of bush is in simple terms carrying it on and have been in way too far over our heads to easily supply up now with out inflicting much greater terrorism and deaths
