It's a question of wording. Photosynthesis is the process by which plants take carbon dioxide from the air and combine them with water and nutrients from the soil to make the necessary carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, ect. for life. Energy from sunlight enables this process to proceed. Solar energy is stored as chemical energy in these chemicals, not in photosynthesis.

In the wood.

The plant uses a chemical process, called photosynthesis, to take water, carbon dioxide and sunlight to make wood.

People use another chemical process, called fire, to release the energy stored in the wood. Burning the wood releases the energy in the form of heat and light.

i think it's chemical potential energy. this is because the energy is only released when these bonds are broken.
