Normally I would say when you notice he's ready to go, you take him to the box & move one of his front paws thru the litter, showing him how to dig, that's what we usually did, but we had one kitten that did what yours does & we eventually nicknamed him shitsie & took him to the humane society. You could try showing him as advised above & or spray some anti cat pee/poop spray they sell in stores, in places he usually goes to stop him from doing his business there, but if that doesnt work, you could either turn him into an outdoor cat or if you dont want an outdoor cat, then I would say humane society., my sister suggest diapers, but she has dogs, so I asked her if they make them in kitty sizes & she says she'll check (I'm I M ng her at the moment while answering your question, she's out west & I'm in midwest, we both grew up with many cats & kittens), she also suggest the spray that's supposed to stop cats from going or take him to vet to check for health problems., she says: "smallest dog daipers are for 4 - 8 lbs 10-13"waist or toy dog size of 2-6lbs with 10 to 12" waist", then she tried looking for kitty ones instead but second one she found was for females on the rag or incontinent, she also found idea of doggie piddle pads that are used to house break puppies too, might or might not work for cats. Hope this helps some.

Take your cat to the litter box personally so he should get the idea.

Your cat should be confined to a small, tile or easily washable room while he gets the idea. (not a bathroom, or a room with lots of tiny spaces because he may drown or get stuck.) Use the room if it is safe where you want him to got

The box may be too big for the kitten and you should try a lower rimmed one (the kitten may be frightened if the edge is too high)

some cats don't like clumping litter, use a litter that's unscented and non clummping, when in doubt use what the breeder, shelter, or pet store used because this is what he's used to.

He may not be making it in time so a second litter box might help a good rule is 2 litter boxes for one cat, or 3 litter boxes for 2 cats etc.

P.S. Use a citrus smelling cleaner (because cats hate the smell of citrus) to clean his messes this will prevent a preference to any one spot

Wow, I've never heard of this before. Cats are considered the cleanest of all domestic animals, and most of them will house break themselves.

Cats are fairly easy to train (easier than dogs, I've heard), so, if the litter-box thing isn't working, try an alternative method. Maybe lay newspaper down in place of a litter box, or if you have the time and patience, take your cat outside to do his business. He'll soon catch on and paw at the door when he needs to go.

Try a pet store. Most of the people there are experienced with animals, and have extensive knowledge on this subject. There might be a product available.. I know they have "puppy pads" for house breaking dogs.. They have a faint dog urine smell on them which is undetected by human noses. Maybe they have something similar for cats..

Good luck!

I agree with trying a different brand of litter. When your kitten wakes up from any nap, put it in the litter box. I have had many kittens over the years, and they usually get it after a little coaxing, don't smack it or stuff, it won't learn that way. It is a kitten. It will get the hang of it. And try to put it in a place that isn't so Public.

My kittens were litter trained by mom. They would try to go somewhere other than the litter box and mom would pick them up and put them in the box. Other than that all I can say is that when you finish feeding them or they have just had a drink put them in the box. Who knows maybe repetition will help.

After your cat poops or pees somewhere on the ground get mad at him and take him to the box. To show that, thats where he has to go. Then after an hour take him to the litterbox and make him use it. If he eats the rocks get mad and firmly say "No". If he doesn't use it after an hour take him him every ten minutes. You have to take him about a month or 2 weeks and then he'll get used to it. Good Luck!

There is a type of litter called Cat Attract. I believe it has chlorophyll in it that attracts the cat - hence, the name. I would use that.

The kitten should be placed in the litterbox and you need to "scratch"/rub his/her paws in the litter. This is the most common trick.

Try to get the cat to stop eating it! Ahh - that can't be good!
